Take 10 Minutes to Clear the Mental Clutter
Sometime within the next week, choose any moment that feels doable and give yourself ten minutes.
These ten minutes have one simple purpose:
Get the swirling thoughts out of your head and into a place where you can see them.
You can do this in different ways:
- List upcoming events or projects
- Write down all the tasks connected to them
- Do a brain dump
What is a brain dump?
A brain dump is simply writing down everything sitting in your mind:
- loose thoughts
- tasks
- concerns
- reminders
- “I can’t forget to…” items
You are not organizing anything yet.
You do not need to make it neat or pretty.
You are giving your brain a break by placing your thoughts somewhere safe and visible.
Why this helps
Getting your thoughts out of your head:
- creates more mental space
- slows the internal noise
- helps you see what actually needs attention
- reduces the fear that you forgot something
- frees up energy you can use for things that matter
Once everything is written down, you can look at it with a calmer mind and decide what needs to happen next.
If you want support
- You can sit with someone you trust and divide things up if that feels helpful.
- If you do not have someone available, that is completely okay.
- Simply seeing everything in front of you can still make things feel lighter.
Choose a focus
After your brain dump, take a moment to choose what you want to focus on.
- You do not need to finish everything
- You are simply giving yourself direction
- If something changes or you need to adjust your plan, that is okay
Being flexible with yourself is a strength.
It supports your brain in the way it works best.
If you have kids
Here is an optional layer that might help:
- Give kids a few small choices
- Let them pick a task they want to take responsibility for
When kids choose their own task:
- They feel more invested
- They take ownership because it was their choice
- They often feel proud and excited when they complete it
- That pride builds confidence
- Doing small things on their own encourages independence in a gentle way
This also lightens your load in a simple, supportive way.
Closing
So today’s Tip Tuesday is simple:
- Take 10 minutes this week
- Release the thoughts trying to live in your head
- Write them down
- Look at them
- Decide what matters most
If you have support, use it.
If not, you can still create clarity on your own.
Not holding everything in your mind frees up energy you can use for the things that truly matter.
