Welcome to episode six of my 30-day Podcasting Posting Challenge.
Today is our very first Real Life Wednesday.
Real Life Wednesday is all about me sharing everyday moments.
Something real. Something a little messy. Maybe funny.
And hopefully something that you can relate to.
So let me tell you what happened last Sunday.
The Story
I started the morning as usual, going to church. And I had a plan:
- go to church
- then go to Costco
- get gas
- get pizza ’cause it’s cheap and I don’t have to cook
- get bananas ’cause they’re really cheap there
So I got there.
The parking lot was packed, as usual. I had already gotten my gas. I went inside and thought about getting the bananas, but the line was so long that I decided not to do that. I’m like:
“Nope. Not happening.”
I still got my two slices of pizza to go. And I had my hot dog right there ’cause I usually don’t buy hot dogs.
When I finally got home, I was super excited because the white shoe bench that I had purchased was finally here.
You might wonder why I wanted a shoe bench:
- I moved within my own house
- I wanted to reorganize the bedroom
- I didn’t have a shoe shelf
- there were shoes everywhere
- and it all looked like a mess
And that is just not how I envisioned the room.
The room is still a work in progress.
But I’m working on organizing it and decluttering a little at a time.
You know… building a business, working full time, all the things.
So in true ADHD fashion, I’m like:
“Okay, that shouldn’t take so long.”
Right?
Wrong.
Two hours and six minutes later, the bench was finally built.
When it comes to me and building things, especially the cheaper furniture:
- I usually hand-tighten everything
- assembling the bench was basically a two-person job
- the directions were not always clear
- but I did not make any major mistakes
- and I still got it done
Because it took me so long, I was not able to do the things I planned for the day:
- take some of my organizing classes with the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals
- do the inventory of the room of the tenant who just moved out
- send him the security deposit
I did none of that.
The Real Life Part
Honestly, that is real life.
We all have days where:
- something we thought would take ten minutes becomes the thing we spend the whole afternoon on
- our plans change the entire day
- the whole rhythm shifts
And if you ever had one of those Sundays, you are in good company.
Reflection Questions
Here are a few questions for you:
- When your days shift, how do you talk to yourself?
- How do you accommodate for the lost time?
- What helps you settle back into a calmer rhythm?
- What helps you readjust and still stay calm?
- Where could you give yourself a little more space so the unexpected moments feel less like setbacks and more like part of the day?
There are no perfect answers.
These questions simply help you create rhythms that work with your brain and your life.
Some days look exactly how you planned them.
Some don’t.
Both still count.
And you are not the only one who has days like this. I definitely do too.
