Welcome
Welcome to Faith Friday.
This is Episode 22 in my 30-day podcasting posting challenge.
A little late, but here we are.
Today, I want to talk about something very real for me, and maybe for you too.
What I Mean by Devotion Time
Normally, I start my mornings with devotion time and prayer.
When I say devotion time, I’m talking about a quiet, intentional moment set aside for prayer and reading scripture.
It’s a time to:
- pause
- reflect
- reconnect with God
before the rest of the day takes over, and to remind myself of who I am and where my strength comes from.
That time helps me find balance before the day begins.
It’s where I check in and orient myself before everything else starts demanding my attention.
Coming As I Am
For me, it’s important to come exactly as I am, not as a polished or put-together version of myself.
I don’t need to have the right words.
I don’t need to have the right mindset.
I just need to show up.
When the Rhythm Breaks
But when I sleep in or wake up late, that rhythm gets disrupted.
And as the day goes on, I usually don’t get back to my devotion time.
It’s just really hard to fit it in once the day is already moving.
When that happens, I notice how quickly everything else feels off.
What Changes When I’m in Scripture
When I pray and spend time in scripture, I feel:
- more loved
- more valued
- more secure
And because of that, I show up kinder.
I have more patience.
I’m better able to keep my filters in place.
By filters, I mean the pause between what I think or feel and how I respond.
The ability to choose my words, my tone, and my reactions with more care.
Not because I’m trying harder, but because I feel more balanced and can fully step out in the knowledge that I’m not doing life alone.
When That Time Doesn’t Happen
When that time doesn’t happen for multiple days in a row, my energy dips.
I feel less balanced.
More insecure.
And I start to doubt myself.
Reframing and Mindset Shifts
This is where I want to talk about reframing and mindset shifts.
When I say reframe, I mean intentionally choosing to look at a thought, a belief, or a situation from a healthier and more truthful perspective.
A mindset shift is the internal change that happens when we stop automatically believing every thought we have and begin questioning whether it’s actually true.
Old Beliefs Can Get Loud
Based on my upbringing and the lack of support I received growing up, there are old thought patterns that can creep in quickly when I’m not intentionally reconnecting with my faith.
There were things that were spoken over me, or repeated often enough, that I started believing them.
Because when things are said to you often enough, especially over time, they can begin to feel true.
How Faith Helps Me Reframe
My faith helps me actively reframe those thoughts.
Scripture helps me learn how to see myself the way God sees me, not through past wounds, old labels, or limiting beliefs I picked up along the way, but through truth, grace, and love.
Faith and Therapy Together
I am in therapy.
I am doing the work to heal from my past.
And that truly matters to me.
But my faith is what carries me through the day, especially on the hard days.
The days when negative thoughts are loud.
The days when self-doubt tries to tell me who I am, or who I am not.
Scripture helps interrupt those thoughts.
Prayer helps me realign.
Faith helps me remember what’s true.
My worth hasn’t changed.
But my connection to it can.
Still a Work in Progress
I want to be clear about something.
This is not a finished process for me.
I’m still working on it.
I’m still learning.
I’m still practicing these reframes and mindset shifts, sometimes daily.
And that’s okay.
A Gentle Reframe
Faith isn’t limited to a perfect morning routine.
When the day doesn’t go as planned:
- we’re still invited to check in
- we’re still allowed to pause
- we’re still welcome to reconnect
Even later.
Even briefly.
Even imperfectly.
Reflection Question
Here’s your reflection for today:
When your routine falls apart, what helps you interrupt old beliefs and reconnect with balanced truth and a sense of being loved?
Closing
If today started late or felt off, it’s not too late to return.
Grace isn’t bound to a schedule.
Faith meets us where we are.
And just like you, I’m learning how to come back to that place, one day at a time.
Thank you for spending this Faith Friday with me.
See you next time.
