What Helped Me Finally Start
Introduction
Hello, and welcome to Momentum Monday and episode 32 of ADHD Life in Real Time.
Have you ever had something on your to-do list that you knew would be helpful, but you still could not seem to get it started?
That was me when it came to creating a new brochure for my business.
Last December, I decided to rename my business from Divergent Thinker to King Pathways.
King is my last name, and I wanted it to be part of my business name. It made the business feel more personal and gave it a stronger connection to who I am.
Pathways represents the different types of support I offer through coaching, mentoring, and professional organizing. There is not only one path forward, and the support each person needs may look different depending on their strengths, challenges, goals, and where they are in life.
King Pathways feels like it has a part of me in it, and it reflects the way I see people. Each person's journey is unique.
But I still had my old Divergent Thinker brochure from when I was at the very beginning of my journey and still training to become a certified ADHD life coach.
Since then, a lot has changed.
I completed my training and became a certified ADHD life coach. I also became a professional organizer with specialized training in supporting people with ADHD and other brain-based conditions.
Over time, I became much clearer about who I want to help, what kind of support I want to provide, and how coaching, mentoring, and professional organizing can all work together.
I also have a much better understanding of myself, my purpose, and the experience I want people to have when they work with me.
Why I Needed a New Brochure
I knew I did not simply need to replace the name on my old brochure.
I needed to create something new that clearly explained who I am, the support I offer, and what people could expect when they work with me.
I knew I needed a new brochure because many people do not really know what ADHD life coaching or professional organizing actually are.
What Is ADHD Life Coaching?
When people hear the word "coach," they may picture a sports coach who tells athletes exactly what to do.
But ADHD life coaching is different.
Coaching starts with the belief that you are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole.
It also recognizes that you are the expert on your own life.
No two people with ADHD are exactly alike. We all think differently, learn differently, and have different strengths, experiences, values, and goals.
That means what works well for one person may not work well for another.
As a coach, I am not here to tell you what to do or hand you a one-size-fits-all solution.
Instead, I ask thoughtful questions that help us look beneath the surface.
Sometimes people come to coaching with one challenge in mind, but as we explore it together, we discover something deeper that is really getting in the way.
Coaching creates space for greater self-awareness.
It helps you better understand how your brain works, recognize your strengths, identify what matters most to you, and discover approaches, strategies, and systems that truly fit your life.
What Is Mentoring?
Other times, people are looking for something a little different.
They may already know what they want to do.
They may simply want someone to answer their questions, offer ideas, or point them in a direction to try.
That is where mentoring comes in.
As a mentor, I can answer questions, offer advice when it is helpful, share practical suggestions, and draw from both my professional training, the experiences of people I have worked with, and my own lived experience with ADHD.
Some days you may want the space to explore and discover your own answers through coaching.
Other days, you may simply feel stuck, overwhelmed, or exhausted and want someone to say, "Here are a few ideas that might help."
Both approaches have value, and because I offer both coaching and mentoring, we can decide together what kind of support is most helpful in that moment.
Professional Organizing
Professional organizing offers another form of support.
Organizing is not just about making a space look pretty or creating a Pinterest-perfect home.
It is about understanding how you live your life and creating systems that support it.
When people become overwhelmed, what is happening on the inside often starts to show up on the outside.
That can look like clutter, piles of paperwork, unfinished projects, or routines that no longer work.
Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all organizing solution, we first look at how you use your space, what your routines look like, what your strengths are, and where you tend to have challenges.
From there, we create systems that fit your life.
Because life changes, those systems sometimes need to change too.
That is why I also offer Flexible Support, so you have a place to check in, talk things through, and make tweaks as needed to help your systems continue to work for you over time.
Different Services, One Goal
One thing I really love is that therapy or counseling, coaching, mentoring, and professional organizing are all different services, but they can work hand in hand to support you.
Therapy or counseling may help you process emotions, experiences, and patterns while supporting your mental and emotional well-being.
Coaching can help you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and create strategies that support your goals.
Mentoring can provide practical guidance and encouragement from someone with training and lived experience.
Professional organizing can help you create physical spaces and household systems that support the life you are building.
Someone may benefit from one of these services, several of them, or all of them at different times in their life.
They are not competing with one another.
Each one offers a different kind of support.
The Heart Behind King Pathways
That was one of the biggest reasons this brochure mattered so much to me.
More than anything, I wanted it to reflect the heart behind everything I do.
At the heart of everything I do, I help every person I work with feel seen, heard, and understood because I know how hard life can feel when you don't.
I also want people to know they are not alone.
That is one of the reasons I created the ADHD Life in Real Time Skool community.
I want people with ADHD to have a place where they can connect with others who understand, learn from one another, share their experiences, and grow together.
So many adults with ADHD have spent years wondering why certain things seem harder for them or believing they are the only ones having those experiences.
My hope is that when someone works with me, listens to this podcast, joins the community, or even picks up one of my brochures, they begin to realize that support is available and they do not have to figure everything out alone.
That is what I wanted my brochure to reflect.
What Helped Me Finally Start
But even though I knew the brochure would be helpful, I kept putting it off for months.
Designing is not one of my natural gifts.
I am learning and getting better because running a business means wearing many hats, but this project still felt overwhelming.
Holding that brochure reminded me of how far I had come.
It reminded me that this was not just about replacing an outdated brochure.
It was about creating something that reflected who I am today, what King Pathways stands for, and how I want people to feel when they encounter my business.
One of my friends also encouraged me to work on it and checked in with me.
That reminder helped too.
So I finally sat down and started.
There were still challenges, and I made plenty of changes along the way.
But once I started, the project began to move.
After putting it off for months, I created the brochure, made the final tweaks, submitted it for printing, and now I cannot wait for the professionally printed copies to arrive.
Soon, I will be able to take them to doctors' offices, therapists' offices, churches, and other places where someone may be looking for support.
They may not even know that ADHD life coaching or ADHD-informed professional organizing is available.
If even one person realizes they do not have to figure everything out alone because they picked up that brochure, then all of the work will have been worth it.
Reflection
Sometimes momentum does not begin because a project suddenly becomes easy.
Sometimes momentum begins because something reconnects us with why the project mattered in the first place.
For me, it was finding that old brochure and remembering the people I want to serve.
For you, it might be an old picture, a conversation, a physical reminder, or a friend checking in and encouraging you to take the next step.
So here are a few questions to reflect on.
- What is something you have been meaning to begin?
- Why does that project matter to you?
- Who might benefit if you brought it to life?
- What could help create your first spark?
You do not have to complete the entire project today.
Maybe your next step is simply opening the document, finding the supplies, writing down your ideas, looking at an earlier version, or telling someone what you plan to work on.
Sometimes reconnecting with your reason for doing something is enough to help you take the first step.
And one small spark may be enough to get the momentum going.
Closing
Thank you so much for spending a little bit of your day with me.
Tomorrow is Tip Tuesday, and I look forward to seeing you then.
Until next time, I hope today helps you create a little more clarity, feel a little more calm, and have a little more confidence.
