Episode 36: Trust Before You See

Hello, and welcome to Episode 36 of ADHD Life in Real Time.
Today is Faith Friday, and I want to share something God has been teaching me this week.
Building a Business Isn't Easy
Building a business can feel overwhelming.
Building a business while having ADHD and juggling multiple responsibilities at once can feel very overwhelming, if not impossible at times.
Lately, I've been recording podcast episodes, growing my coaching and professional organizing business, building my community, taking certification classes, preparing for graduate school, networking, working delivery jobs, and trying to keep up with everyday life.
There have been moments where I've caught myself trying to figure everything out on my own.
"What should I do next?"
"Who should I contact?"
"How much is this going to cost?"
"How am I going to make all of this work?"
Without even realizing it, I had started relying on my own strength instead of going to God first.
When I Finally Prayed
One thing I was especially stressed about was creating my business brochure.
I wanted it to represent me and tell my story well.
I wanted it to tell people what I stand for and represent my business well.
I kept thinking I needed more experience, more design skills, maybe even more money to hire someone to help me.
Then I finally stopped and prayed.
I simply asked God to help me.
Looking back, I can see that He had already provided so much of what I needed.
The ideas came together.
The tools were already there.
The brochure came together one step at a time.
God didn't hand me the finished product.
He gave me what I needed for the next step.
A Lamp for the Next Step
That reminded me of Psalm 119:105:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Notice it doesn't say a spotlight for the entire journey.
It says a lamp for our feet.
A lamp gives us enough light for the next step.
I think that's hard sometimes because we want the whole roadmap before we're willing to move.
But God often doesn't work that way.
He invites us to trust Him one step at a time.
Trust Before You See
That also makes me think about Joshua chapter 3.
When the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant into the Jordan River, God didn't part the waters while they were standing safely on the shore.
They stepped into the water first.
Then God parted the waters and made a way.
Sometimes we're waiting for God to show us the whole plan, while He's simply asking us to trust Him with the next step.
God Was Already Making a Way
I've seen that in my own life recently.
One of the things I had been thinking about was connecting with other professional organizers in my area.
I hadn't even figured out how I was going to do that.
Then something unexpected happened.
One of the organizers reached out to me first.
Now I have the opportunity to meet other local organizers.
It reminded me that while I was trying to figure out how to make it happen, God was already working behind the scenes.
He had already made a way.
His Ways Are Higher
That brings me to Isaiah chapter 55, verses 8 and 9.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.
I had one idea of how everything needed to happen.
God had another.
His ways are higher than mine.
His timing is better than mine.
His plans are greater than mine.
Be Strong and Courageous
Then there's Joshua chapter 1, verse 9—one of my favorite verses.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
God told Joshua to be strong and courageous because what He was calling Joshua to do was very scary.
Joshua was stepping into something completely new.
There was uncertainty.
There was responsibility.
There were things Joshua couldn't see yet.
God didn't ignore those feelings.
Instead, He reminded Joshua to be strong and courageous, and He gave him the reason why:
Because He would be with him wherever he went.
That is something I'm learning too.
Courage doesn't mean I have all the answers.
It doesn't mean I never feel uncertain.
It means I can take the next step because I know I'm not taking it alone.
Faith Requires Action
Faith isn't about forcing doors open in our own strength.
It's about having the courage to walk through the doors God has already opened, even when we don't feel fully confident or ready yet.
For me, that means asking God for wisdom instead of trying to solve everything by myself.
It means taking the next step I already know how to take.
Making the phone call.
Replying to the email.
Recording the podcast.
Showing up.
Trusting that if God has called me to do something, He will also provide what I need along the way.
It doesn't mean I sit back and wait for everything to happen.
It means I pray, I listen, and then I step forward in faith.
Don't Pick It Back Up
Finally, Philippians chapter 4, verses 6 and 7 reminds us:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Sometimes I pray about something...
...and then I pick it right back up.
I tell God I've surrendered it, but then I try to control the outcome myself.
Maybe you've been there too.
Two Questions to Reflect On
So today, I want to leave you with two questions.
Where are you asking God for the whole roadmap when He may simply be inviting you to trust Him with the next step?
And...
What are you holding on to that God is asking you to surrender?
Today, God isn't asking you to have every answer.
He's asking you to trust Him enough to take the next step.
To be strong and courageous.
To walk through the doors He's already opened.
And to remember that wherever He calls you, He also promises to be with you.
