Episode 39: The Power of Showing Up
Momentum Monday
The Power of Showing Up
Today, I want to share a story about the power of showing up.
On July 7th, I joined Skoolβspelled S-K-O-O-Lβbecause I wanted to create an online community for adults with ADHD.
My vision and heart were to build a place where people could learn, connect, grow, and realize they are not alone.
A place where we could share real-life experiences, celebrate wins, learn practical strategies, and encourage one another along the way.
Around that time, I was taking a business class that strongly encouraged us to start building a community. That was the little push I needed to stop thinking about it and actually begin.
But joining Skool and building a community were two very different things.
I had to learn a brand-new platform.
I had to figure out how to create a banner, write a description, organize the community, and learn how everything worked.
Honestly, I felt intimidated and overwhelmed.
For about two weeks, I looked at the platform without really getting started.
One Tiny Spark
Then, on July 22nd, I finally decided to begin.
I started with the banner.
That was my Spark.
If you've listened to previous episodes, you've heard me talk about my SPARK Cycle.
The Spark is one tiny step that gets you moving.
For me, it was creating the banner.
When I finished it, I celebrated that tiny win with a little happy dance.
That celebration helped me pause and notice what I had accomplished.
And because accomplishing something feels good, I wanted to do more of it.
So I wrote the community description.
Then I created the welcome post.
Then I wrote the community guidelines.
Then I created my very first regular community post.
One tiny step led to another.
It was almost like a snowball rolling downhill, picking up more snow and going faster and faster.
That is how momentum can begin.
You start with one tiny Spark without worrying about finishing the whole project right away.
You celebrate the win.
And because that win feels good, you may find yourself wanting to keep going.
Before I knew it, the community was starting to come together.
Showing Up Before You See Results
Then came the hard part.
There were no members yet.
No conversations.
No visible sign that anything I was doing was making a difference.
Even now, none of my posts have comments...except for the comments I leave myself.
But I keep showing up.
Because I've learned that progress often happens before we can see it.
And this isn't just true when you're building a community.
Maybe you're trying to get healthier.
You start walking more or making healthier food choices, but the scale doesn't change right away.
Maybe you're working on your fitness.
You may not feel stronger or notice changes right away, even though your body is adjusting.
Maybe you're organizing your home.
At first, it may feel like you've worked for hours, but the room still feels cluttered.
Maybe you're paying off debt, applying for jobs, studying for a degree, or building a new routine.
You keep putting in the effort, but the results don't show up overnight.
That doesn't mean your effort isn't working.
It simply means growth takes time.
The Moment That Meant Everything
Then something exciting happened.
Someone joined my community.
Not because they already followed me on Facebook.
Not because I personally invited them.
They found my community on Skool because they were looking for a community for adults with ADHD.
That moment meant so much to me.
Honestly, it almost brought me to tears of joy.
It reminded me that while I couldn't always see the results of showing up, someone was searching for exactly what I was creating.
That one member didn't suddenly make the community busy.
People still aren't commenting on my posts.
But it reminded me that showing up matters.
You never know what will come from showing up over and over again.
I want this community to become a place where adults with ADHD can learn, connect, grow, share what is working, celebrate their progress, and know they are not alone.
Reflection
So today, I want to leave you with this question.
What have you been putting off?
What is one tiny Spark that could get you moving?
Maybe it's opening the document.
Maybe it's putting on your walking shoes.
Maybe it's washing one dish.
Maybe it's making one phone call.
You don't have to worry about how much you will finish.
Just begin with one tiny Spark.
Then pause and celebrate that win.
However you want to celebrate it.
For me, it's a little happy dance.
You don't have to dance.
The important part is taking a moment to notice what you accomplished.
Because when accomplishing something feels good, you may want to do more of it.
At least, that's what happens for me.
And that is how one tiny step can turn into momentum.
If you're an adult with ADHD looking for a supportive place to learn, connect, and grow with people who understand, I'd love to invite you to join our free ADHD Life in Real Time community on Skool.
Thank you for spending a little bit of your day with me.
Until next time, I will see you for Tip Tuesday.
Until then, I hope today's story helps you create a little more clarity, feel a little more calm, and have a little more confidence. ππ
